Why Won’t a TikTok Video Download? Common Errors Explained
The most common reasons a TikTok video can’t be downloaded — private account, deleted video, photo slideshow, broken short link or rate limits — and fixes.
Most errors have a simple cause. Here is what each message means.
The account is private
Videos from private accounts and friends-only videos can only be seen by approved followers, so they can’t be downloaded. Only public videos are supported.
The video was deleted
If the creator removed the video, or the account was banned, the link no longer points to anything.
It’s a photo slideshow
TikTok photo posts (slideshows) are not videos. They aren’t supported yet — use a link to a regular video.
The short link is broken
Links like vm.tiktok.com/… sometimes get cut off when copied from a message. Copy the link again from the TikTok app using Share → Copy link.
“Please try again shortly”
TikTok sometimes limits how many requests it answers. Wait a minute and try again.
